A 51-year-old man, Keke Jimon, who allegedly stole a generator battery belonging to his employer, valued at N95,000, was on Monday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun.

Jimon, who resides at No. 8, Ayodele St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 25, at about 12.00 a.m., at Cele Taiwo, Ota.

Gbesi said that the accused, a staff of Connect Security Company, Ota, was caught by the security guard of the company.

“The management of the company later handed him over to the police where he made a confessional statement,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

Akan said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned until June 14 for hearing.
