A 35 -year-old man, Dele Daude, on Thursday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo for alleged burglary and theft of items worth N58,800.
Daude, with no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of burglary, stealing and malicious damage.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
Police prosecutor, Insp Olubisi Lawrence, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 13 at 10 p.m. at Okedara NTA road, via Ogbe in Abeokuta.
Lawrence said the accused broke into the house of one Ogunleye Micheal and stole two home theatre speaker valued N16,000, a bag containing pliers and screwdrivers valued N6000.
A pair of Slippers valued N1200, one Itel phone valued N12000, one HTC phone valued N12,500 and gas cylinder valued N9000.
He said the cost of all the items was put at N58,800.
According to the prosecutor, the accused broke into the complainant house through the door and unlawfully damaged the padlock of the door in order to gain entrance into the room.
The accused was arrested when the complainant saw his gas cylinder with one man, who claimed that the accused sold it to him.
The prosecutor said that the man, who led the police to find the accused, was also arrested.
He said that offences, contravened Sections 412, 415, and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Olarewanju Onagorowa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 29 for hearing.
