Residents of Danjuma area of Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday allegedly caught a middle-aged man identified as Kayode Michael with a bag containing women’s underwear and used sanitary pads.

The man was almost lynched by a mob after he was caught with the nylon bag containing female underwear.

Mr Kayode was accused of either intending to use the underwear for ritual purposes or selling them to ritualists.

According to a source, some of the female items found in the bag which the suspect was carrying included used pants, bras and a blood-soaked sanitary pad.

“People saw him picking female underwear around the area, but when he was questioned, he could not give a convincing answer. So, the people felt he wanted to use them for rituals.

“As he could not give answer to the questions put to him, people started beating him, they wanted to kill him; but he was later rescued and handed over to the security agents,” a source said.

Another source said, “The man was caught by Okada riders in Danjuma area of Akure while he was picking female pants and bras.

“He also picked a fresh sanitary pad soaked with blood. Nobody knew what he wanted to use them for. But he has been handed over to men of the Civil Defence Corps, Ondo Command.”

Ondo NSCDC spokesperson, Oladapo Samuel, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect was still in their custody as investigation had begun.

Mr Oladapo added that the suspect’s relatives had visited the Command to say that he (suspect) was mentally-challenged and that he was fond of picking refuse around the town.
