A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Jamilu Ibrahim, to six months imprison for receiving stolen property.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 as fine.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, as the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Ibrahim, who resides at Mabushi Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of receiving stolen property.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he did not know it was a stolen property.
The Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that one Felicia Joseph of Jima Street, Wuse Zone 6 Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on January 14.
Dalhatu said that the convict received a shoe valued N10, 000 which was stolen from the complainant.
“During the police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime, that he bought the shoes from one Usman Ibrahim at N1, 000,’’ the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Section 317 of the Penal Code.
