The club confirmed the transfer via its twitter handle @ManUtd on Tuesday evening.
“#mufc is pleased to announce French forward @AnthonyMartial has completed his transfer from Monaco. #WelcomeMartial.”
The 19-year-old is a highly-rated forward who has been compared to a young Thierry Henry, but is still largely unproven at the highest level.
Martial is now the most expensive teenager of all time but fans are sceptical about the signing given that he has only scored 15 goals in his senior club career.
The youngster swapped Lyon for Monaco two years ago for £5 million in a deal that many thought was excessive at the time. It however proved to be a shrewd move.
Martial is United’s only deadline day arrival with the club still quite limited on their attacking options this season.
Speaking after completing the deal, Martial said that he was honoured to join ‘the biggest club in the world’. He also said: “I’m so excited to join United.
“I have enjoyed my time at AS Monaco and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me.”
The player who is yet to make a senior debut for the French national team said it was a dream come true to play in the premier league.
“I have always wanted to play in the Premier League and to join the biggest club in the world is what every young footballer dreams of.
“I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and working with Louis van Gaal who has achieved so much in his career.”
