Adidas Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Hainer, has joined the chorus of criticism of the style of play being promoted by Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal.
Van Gaal has been criticised by fans and pundits alike for his poor football philosophy with many calling for his sack.
Adidas, a German sportswear company, is the official kit sponsors of the Premier League giants.
Hainer, however, revealed that despite the club’s poor football style, their kit sales have exceeded the company’s expectations following their record breaking £750m deal with the Old Trafford club.
The pressure has eased on Van Gaal’s position as United manager in recent days, with Saturday’s nervous 2-1 win against Swansea ending an eight-game winless run.
Yet it seems as if the negativity over the dour football United have served up this season has not gone unnoticed by Adidas chiefs.
“We are happy even though Manchester United is currently playing in a way that we do not really want to see,” stated Hainer in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung.
“Things are running smoothly with United. We are selling more (United kit) than expected, with 60 per-cent of sales being in the overseas market outside of England.”
Van Gaal will hope his side have turned a corner after their victory against manager-less Swansea last weekend, with an FA Cup tie against Sheffield United on Saturday the next test for the veteran Dutch tactician.
