Marry your friend, Nikky Laoye advises singles

nikki laoyeGospel singer, Oyenike Laoye-Oturu, popularly known as Nikky Laoye, has opened up on the secret of her marriage of three years.

In a recent chat with The Nation, Nikky Laoye, who is in the forefront of late Kefee’s posthumous birthday bash coming up on February 5, spoke on what single ladies should look out for in a relationship.

“Priority, he must be your best friend,” she said. “I can never say enough of that because the truth is, you will have crazy issues. I’ve been married for three years now and my husband and I know the issues we have had. But because of the fact that you guys are each other’s best friend, you will solve them faster. My husband and I are so close. We are gisting partners. So that when we even fight, it’s hard to fight because we are like ‘we have gist, we can’t share it.’ After a while, we are like ‘abeg lets settle this thing, let’s talk.’ It’s easier when it’s someone you can’t do without, your gisting partner, your confidant.”

Nikky, who spoke gleefully about her love life, described the experience as amazing. “I’m married to my best friend. I’m telling you, he’s simply amazing. He stands by me. He’s on my management team as well. We do a lot together. He keeps my head together. Let me put it that way. I’m happy to have him with me. We do a lot together.”

On the attraction, the “Never Felt This Way Before” crooner said she’s a sucker for fine boys. “I like being with cute guys,” she said. “At the same time, he has a strong personality. He keeps to time. Of course, you look for the things you don’t have. He actually complements me.”
