Hajara Ahmad who married Sulaiman Muhammad, younger brother of her late fiancé Abubakar Muhammad who was in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has cleared doubts that she was forced into marrying him.
Hajara wedded Sulaiman on March 20, 2021, about five weeks after the death of her fiancé.
She told BBC Pidgin on Wednesday that the marriage was initiated by her.
“The truth is that the marriage was my choice. Nobody forced me into it or anything,” she said.
Hajara also revealed that she still misses her late fiancé, adding that she always prays for him.
“I cannot forget him (Abubakar) and I always pray for him,” she said.
The new bride said the marriage has brought her happiness, adding that she is currently enjoying the union.
She could only smile when asked the qualities she saw in Sulaiman that influenced her decision.
Sulaiman had told BBC on Tuesday that Hajara’s family contacted his, explaining that the union had the backing of both families.
Abubakar was among NAF operatives killed during a gun duel with armed bandits at Ungwan Laya axis of Birnin Gwari, Kaduna on February 13.
