Masked gunmen invade Seyi Makinde’s hotel in Kogi

Masked gunmen in police uniforms have stormed the hotel where Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is staying ahead of Saturday’s elections in Kogi.

Mr Makinde is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Kogi State Campaign Council.

A statement by Makinde’s chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, on Friday said gunmen attempted to break into the hotel rooms.

“Eyewitnesses confirmed that the hooded security operatives arrived the Suitorial Hotels, Lokoja, located along Stadium Road, Lokoja, where the governor and some members of the PDP Campaign Council are lodged at about 12.50 pm, on Friday, shooting sporadically and attempting to break into the hotel rooms,” the statement said.

“It was gathered the some of the hooded security operatives scaled the fence of the hotel and attempted to enter the rooms.”

Mr Adisa also said that policemen attached to the governor, assisted by residents of the area, fought off the invaders.

Tensions have been high in Kogi ahead of the governorship polls also scheduled for November 16 as both camps of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP have accused each other of brewing trouble.

Governor Yahaya Bello is seeking a second term in office on the APC platform.
