A member of staff of Globacom Nigeria, Alemanni Adaramola, was shot dead on Thursday morning in Ojo, Lagos State.
Mr Adaramola was leaving for work when he was accosted by masked men at PPL bus stop on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The gunmen attacked him with machetes before shooting him.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said the gunshots sent everyone around the vicinity scampering for safety.
The deceased’s wife, Patience Adaramola, said her husband had left home at 6.00 am that day to check on someone before resuming for work.
“My husband left home early today to see someone before his office resumption hour. I do not know why these men decided to kill him. When the news filtered in, we were told that a man who was attacked by gunmen was injured. I prayed that the man got well, but I did not know that the person was my husband. I don’t know what to do now,” she said.
Lagos police spokesman, Bala Elkana, when contacted, confirmed the incident, saying that reports from eyewitnesses indicated that the victim was an alleged cult member.
Mr Elkana said the victim had gone to eat out before rushing out of the place while receiving a phone call, saying “I am coming, I am coming.”
He added that the deceased was then cut with machete before being shot dead.
“No arrest has been made, the case still under investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death with a view of apprehending the culprits and bringing them to justice,” said Elkana.
