Minister of state for defence Bello Matawalle has directed the chief of defence staff General Christopher Musa to go after killers of the district head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Bawa.
Matawalle also condemned the murder of the 74-year-old monarch in a statement on Thursday by the ministry’s spokesman Henshaw Ogubike.
Bawa was kidnapped alongside his son and six others in July while travelling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni near the Niger border.
A team sent to deliver the ransom demanded by the bandits met Bawa’s corpse.
Before his death, a video of the appealing for his release from the hands of his abductors went viral last week Saturday.
“The killing of Alhaji Isa Bawa of Gatawa District is a senseless and brutal act that will not be tolerated,” Matawalle said.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”
