A former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman Prof. Maurice Iwu, has arrived the Federal High Court in Lagos for his arraignment.
Spokesperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Tony Orilade, had said in a statement on Wednesday that Iwu would be tried for allegedly laundering N1.2 billion.
The former INEC chair arrived court around 9:30 am on Thursday in the company of EFCC operatives.
Iwu is alleged to have been involved in the N23.29 billion poll bribery scandal during the 2015 general elections.
He will be tried by Justice Chuka Obiozor.
The judge is the only one sitting during the court’s ongoing annual long vacation.
Iwu will be represented by a senior lawyer, Ahmed Raji, who is also counsel for former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
Former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, is named in the charge.
