Singer Mayorkun has demanded N1 billion in damages from TikToker Nickie Dabarbie for alleging he is a “ritualist”.
Nickie made the allegation in an Instagram post on Friday in which she claimed that “Mayorkun and some other Nigerian artistes are all ritualists”.
The TikToker also claimed she “escaped from being used for rituals” by another singer Skiibii.
She narrated how the singer invited her to his house for a boat cruise and “forced” her to take “alcohol before trying to kill me”.
However, in a letter from his legal representative, Mayorkun described Nickie’s allegations as “baseless, bizarre and untrue”.
He also demanded that the TikToker issue a retraction and public apology on all social media platforms and two national dailies within 24 hours.
The singer also requested the lady to pay N1 billion as “damages for emotional trauma, loss of endorsement”.
The letter added that the demands must be met in 48 hours.
The letter read in parts: “First and foremost, our client denies all allegations made as they are baseless, bizarre and untrue. We are also aware that our client has neither met with you privately nor had any personal dealings/ relationship with you which further buttresses our assertion that your statements are unfounded and frivolous.
“We hereby demand that you immediately adhere to the following conjunctively. That you take down the offensive publication on all of your social media accounts within 24 hours of receipt of the letter. That you will accompany the retraction of the offensive publication with a video and written apology in two national newspapers.
“That you henceforth desist from engaging in any acts written and/or verbal which are defamatory, slanderous towards our clients. That you pay our client a sum of not less than 1 billion Naira as a damages fee for all the emotional trauma, loss of endorsements and cost of engaging legal counsel.“Take further notice, that you should you fail to adhere to our demands herein within 48 hours with the exception of the takedown of the offensive publication which must be done within 24 hours.”
This comes a few hours after Skiibii said that he had “reported the case to the police for a thorough investigation”.
