Transport leader Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo has assumed office as the president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) despite a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal nullifying his presidency.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, in a decision delivered by Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate NURTW president.

This ruling upheld an earlier judgment by the National Industrial Court, delivered on March 11, which declared Baruwa the rightful leader of the union.

Despite the legal setback, MC Oluomo took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce he had assumed office. He declared himself ready to tackle challenges and work toward unity within the union.

“It’s time for no distraction. Refocused, recharged, ready to rock! I’m back to work, primed to tackle all challenges head-on, crush my goals with precision and passion, make today count with purpose and productivity.

“Opportunities, obstacles, successes, I’m ready! Today’s mindset: focused, driven and unstoppable. Watch me soar,” the 49-year-old wrote.

Baruwa, who was first elected as NURTW president in 2019 and re-elected in August 2023, has yet to regain his position.
