Meet the early favourites for PFA Player of the Year award

Alexis Sanchez is the new favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award, and his Arsenal team-mate Mesut Ozil is not far behind.

The Chilean forward started the season in what was, by his own high standards, somewhat sluggish form and did not find the net until late September.

However since his hat-trick against Leicester City in a 5-2 win, Sanchez has been back to his irrepressible best, inspiring the Gunners to crucial victories over Manchester United and Bayern Munich. His individual form has taken him to the top of Bet Victor’s odds for player of the year, with the bookmaker having cut his price from 5/1 to 7/2.

That has taken him ahead of Sergio Aguero as the favourite to win the PFA award, with the Manchester City striker remaining at 4/1. He is one of several players from the early league leaders to top the list of favourites for individual honours in May.

David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are both priced at 8/1, while Raheem Sterling’s fine form sees him make the top six at a price of 16/1. The £49 million signing is joint favourite with Anthony Martial to claim the prize for young players.

Last year’s PFA Player of the Year Eden Hazard is priced at 25/1, with team-mate Willian further back at 33/1.

Sanchez, who also made the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award, is not the only Arsenal player to rank among the early favourites as Mesut Ozil’s odds of 10/1 make him fifth favourite to claim the crown of the Premier League’s top performer at the end of the campaign. Arsene Wenger’s record signing has had one his best runs of form in an Arsenal shirt since the start of this season and his odds may drop further if the Gunners continue their title challenge.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Ozil can continue to provide chances for Sanchez, who is also among the favourites to claim the Golden Boot. In this instance he trails Aguero (5/2) with odds of 6/1, but they make him second favourite ahead of the current league leader, Jamie Vardy at 7/1.

Harry Kane’s hat-trick against Bournemouth has brought him back into contention for the individual awards, with his price falling from 33/1 to 16/1 after the victory. The Tottenham striker remains a long shot for the PFA Player of the Year at 40/1, though his odds of claiming a second young player prize are 14s, ahead of team-mate Delle Alli at 16s.
