Swanky Jerry, stylist of 2019 Big Brother Naija winner, Mercy Eke, has responded to the comments made by his former boss, Toyin Lawani, over the best-dressed awards at the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held on Saturday.
Toyin, 38, had labelled the best-dressed male and female celebrity awards won by Mike Edwards and Mercy Eke, respectively, a ‘joke’.
Her words: “Most of my looks didn’t make it the red carpet but all these Best Dressed are jokes. Ok let’s even forget my own dresses, that Nana lady and Denola looked nice as hell. See everyone is entitled to their opinion like the rest of the world, but when Tiannah talks it means she’s spoiling other people’s work, common give yourself and your village people sense. Caption this.”
Jerry, whose real name is Jerry Ogbodo, took to Instastories on Sunday to address the comments, though he did not mention her by name.
In the now-deleted post, the 28-year-old wrote: “How low can you go sis? Every young creative was busy giving their best last night with the number of people who showed up at the award and you think you are who? Listen, to every creative who worked at the AMVCA last night, God sees your hard work and he will reward you. Keep believing in yourself. From the hairstylists, the makeup artists, dressmakers and designers to the photographers, you all did an amazing job and your work is not a joke. Don’t let anybody lie to you. Please sis, if you are tired, go and rest.”
Mercy, 26, also responded to the matter on Instastories on Sunday.
The reality TV star advised critics of her award to “earn yourselves premium supporters like my Mercenaries.”
‘Mercenaries’ is a word she uses to describe her fans.
Mercy wore two dresses at the AMVCA which held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Her first look was a strapless blue ball gown while the second was a long-sleeved green dress with a thigh-high slit.
