Nigerians have expressed disappointment over the state of insecurity in the country following the kidnap of the prelate of Methodist Church Samuel Uche and the subsequent payment of N100 million as ransom.
The prelate on Tuesday confirmed the church paid N100 million as ransom before he was released.
Uche said at a press conference in Lagos that the money was arranged in five sacks of N20 million each.
The clergyman alleged that neither the federal nor state government, nor security agencies intervened.
Uche and two others were abducted on May 29 on their way from a programme in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State. The two others are the bishop of Owerri, Dennis Mark, and the prelate’s chaplain identified simply as Shitti. They were all released on Monday after the ransom was paid.
The revelation by the prelate has raised fresh calls from the public for the Federal Government to prioritise security. Some social media users say kidnappers are now the richest persons in the country after politicians.
