Michael Obafemi has netted his first senior goal helping Southampton to a 3-1 Premier League win over Huddersfield Town.
Born in Dublin to Nigerian parents, Obafemi recently represented Ireland but could still switch allegiance to his fatherlan.
The 18-year-old slid in a Nathan Redmond cross to secure all three points for the Saints in the 71st minute.
A long ball played in was mishandled by Terriers defender Christopher Schindler and Redmond pounced
His low cross was behind the Dublin-born striker, but he hooked the ball out from under his feet under Jonas Lossll and into the bottom right corner of the net.
Redmond himself had given Southampton the lead, a lead doubled just before half time by Danny Ings’ penalty.
Philip Billing pulled one back for Huddersfield before Obafemi’s strike.
The 18-year-old thus becomes the youngest Saint player to net in England’s top division.
