Nigerian footballer, John Obi Mikel, has expressed his joy at taking part in his first Super Eagles training session ahead of the Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON).
The continental championship will hold in Egypt from June 21 to July 19.
Mikel, 32, posted a picture from the session on Instagram on Monday.
“First session back with Super Eagles 🦅 🇳🇬 Feeling super ⚽️ #Nigeria #afcon #Supereagles,” he wrote.
Mikel Obi was named in a 25-man provisional Super Eagles squad for the 32nd AFCON finals.
Six players were placed on standby according to a statement released by director of communications at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire.
Mikel, who captained the team at the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia last year summer, has not played for Nigeria since the country’s 1-2 defeat by Argentina in Saint Petersburg.
However, a recent meeting with Coach Gernot Rohr in the UK sealed the former Chelsea player’s return to the three–times African champions, with the possibility of adding to his 85 international caps.
Rohr has largely kept faith with the players who earned a ticket to the AFCON finals with a match to spare.
Some of the regulars who made the cut are goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defenders Leon Balogun and William Ekong, midfielders Oghenekaro Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi, and forwards Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon.
