Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has joined Turkish side, Trabzonspor, on a two-year deal with an option for a further year.
The Turkish Super Lig club announced the signing of the Nigeria international on a permanent deal as a free agent.
“A two-year and an additional year agreement was signed with the free captain of the Nigerian national team, John Obi Mikel, to transfer to our club,” the club announced.
Mikel Obi last played in the English Championship for Middlesbrough at the end of the 2018-19 season.
He will team up with compatriots Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme and is expected to boost the Black Sea Storm’s midfield with his vast experience.
Trabzonspor are in contention for Europa League football next season after their fourth-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig in the 2018-19 campaign.
Mikel was part of the Nigerian team that was defeated by Madagascar in their final group game at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
