And two years after twerking her way into MTV folklore, pop star Miley Cyrus has revealed that she will be hosting this year’s event.
The 25-year-old ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer made the announcement on social media by posting a picture of herself dressed as an alien, holding a sandwich board saying, “MTV won’t let me perform,” next to another photo of her and the board saying, “So I’m hosting this year’s VMAs.”
It is the first time the VMA will have an MC since comedian Kevin Hart was host in 2012.
Miley is allegedly banned from performing at the awards after her 2013 set. The star made headlines, and catapulted the verb “to twerk” into the popular lexicon, after a provocative performance with singer Robin Thicke, in which she wore a nude bikini and shocked millions of viewers with a risqué twerking routine.
At the 2014 awards, she sent a homeless man named Jesse Helt to collect her award for best video.
The awards show, which honours artistes for achievements in music videos, has a history of surprising, unscripted moments. In 2003, Britney Spears shared a kiss with Madonna and in 2009 Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.
Many are already expecting her to come up with a series of wacky routines come August.
