It is a follow-up to the meeting President Muhammadu Buhari had with Sokoto State, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who is now a senator.
A statement issued by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said Thursday’s meeting, which held at the Presidential Lodge in Sokoto, had in attendance, Tambuwal, National Vice Chairman of the APC in North West, Inuwa Abdulkadir, state executive committee members of the party, members of national and state assemblies and leaders of the party in the 23 local government areas of the state.
Speaking while declaring the meeting open, Tambuwal said the gathering was convened to brief the stakeholders the outcome of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said as loyal and respected members of the party, it is only wise to give the members feedback and to admit Ms. Abubakar into their fold for further consultations.
The outcome of the fruitful meeting will be communicated to the appropriate organs of the APC at state and national levels.
Abubakar’s nomination was rejected by Sokoto APC “because she was not known to the party, not a member of the party and also because she comes from the same zone, like Governor Aminu Tambuwal”.
Thursday’s meeting came a day after a group known as Sokoto Citizens Forum threaten to sensitise people across the three senatorial districts in the state on the likelihood of commencing the recall of Senators Wamakko, Ibrahim Gobir and Ibrahim Danbaba over their perceived opposition to the choice of the ministerial nominee.
Secretary General of the group, Malam Isah Suleiman, told newsmen in Sokoto that Aisha had the prerequisite experience that would be useful to Nigeria at this period of financial crisis.
His words: “We condemn, in the strongest of terms, the position of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Senator Ibrahim Gobir and Senator Ibrahim Danbaba on our ministerial nominee. We shall soon initiate the process of their recall.
“In this era of dwindling oil revenue, Aisha will bring to bear her expertise as a financial guru in diversifying our economy. She is a rare gem, a princess from the caliphate, whose nomination attracted applause from the length and breadth of this great country.”
