There have been mixed reactions since the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, insisted on Wednesday that he would privatise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) if elected as president.
Atiku reemphasised his plans for the NNPC when he spoke at a town hall meeting with ward, local government and state party leaders at the Kaduna Trade Fair Complex.
The former vice president first made his intention to sell the public company known in November 2018. He said he would sell 90 per cent of the company and keep 10 per cent for the federal government.
While some have attacked him saying that he intended to make his friends and relatives richer by selling the company to them, others say that it might be a decision long overdue.
