Actress Adebimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji, commonly known as Mo Bimpe, has provided an update on plans to produce a film about the historic Ekiti Parapo War.
Mo Bimpe shared the update in a lengthy Instagram post late Wednesday, expressing excitement about bringing the story of her home state, Ekiti, to the big screen.
“It was great spending productive time with my people in Ekiti as well as His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, as we discussed topics ranging from art and craft to storytelling, our history, and dreams of driving a thriving creative economy,” she wrote.
The actress emphasised her commitment to getting the story right, saying, “I am happy to be working with the grassroots, combing the nooks and crannies of Ekiti to learn our history so social media gatekeepers won’t say we didn’t do justice to history.”
Mo Bimpe and her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, who hail from Ekiti and Ogun states respectively, recently produced Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, a film about the legendary Egba warrior Lisabi.
Their next project, Ekiti Parapo War, will highlight the resilience of the Ekiti people against oppression.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji had earlier endorsed the production of the film during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.
He formalised a partnership between the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy and AL Notions Film Company, owned by the Nollywood couple.
According to a statement by the governor’s special adviser on media, Yinka Oyebode, the film will be privately funded, with AL Notions Film Company leading the project in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.
Mo Bimpe called on Ekiti creatives and talents to get ready for the project, adding, “Any opportunity to tell our own story will always warm my heart. Ekiti Parapo War—the movie is coming!”
