Modupe Alakija to receive doctoral award from Ajayi Crowther University

Businessman and chairman of Famfa Oil Modupe Alakija is set to be conferred with a honorary doctor of business administration degree from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo,

This is in recognition of his contributions to business law, corporate governance, and economic development in Nigeria.

In a statement, the company said the conferment ceremony would take place on November 28, 2024, at Ajayi Crowther University’s main campus.

It stated, “Alakija’s distinguished career spans over five decades of groundbreaking work in corporate law, business administration, and educational development since his call to the Bar in 1971. His innovative approaches to corporate governance and unwavering commitment to excellence have significantly influenced Nigeria’s business landscape.

“Alakija is a legal practitioner and business leader. As Chairman of FAMFA Oil Ltd, a prominent oil exploration and production company, and Dayspring Property Development Company, he has demonstrated exceptional acumen in corporate leadership.

“His legal career began with his education at the University of Lagos where he obtained his LLB, followed by his call to the Nigerian Bar in 1971. He is also a recipient of the Cathedral Parish Award, the highest honour at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos.”

Speaking about the honour, Alakija said, “I am deeply humbled to receive this recognition from Ajayi Crowther University. This honorary doctorate reflects my journey and the collective efforts of all those who have worked tirelessly to advance corporate governance and business excellence in Nigeria.

“I look forward to continuing to contribute to the development of our business sector and the education of future leaders.”
