The family of singer Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has opposed plans by some organisations and individuals to commemorate the first anniversary of his death.
In a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the family expressed their desire to mourn in peace, without the added strain of public events that could exacerbate their grief.
“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organizations are planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad).
“The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas,” the statement read.
The family highlighted that Mohbad had yet to be buried and asked the public to join them in prayers rather than organising elaborate events that could heighten their emotional burden.
“We are aware that some individuals and organizations have been planning events to mark the anniversary of our late son’s passing.
“We urge them to seek proper approval from the family before going forward.
“The Aloba family does not wish for the goodwill associated with their illustrious son to be used for commercial purposes,” the statement continued.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
In June, a Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu granted Mohbad’s family permission to conduct a second autopsy after the first did not reveal the cause of his death.
