Family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has conducted an independent autopsy in a bid to uncover the cause of his death.

This move follows an order from the Magistrate of the Coroner Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, T.A. Shotobi, on June 26.

The order permitted Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, to hire a licensed pathologist to perform an independent autopsy.

According to the court’s directive, all expenses related to the autopsy, including examination and evaluation, are to be borne by the applicant, Mr. Aloba.

Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the autopsy took place on July 19 and 20.

She indicated that should the initial post-mortem examination fail to ascertain the cause of death, the family is prepared to proceed with toxicology and histology tests on the collected samples.

“The second autopsy as requested by the Aloba family and ordered by the Magistrate of the Coroner Court, Ms. T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, 2024.

“This autopsy is a two-part exercise, with the first part now completed.

“If the cause of the death cannot be determined from this initial examination, the second part will proceed, involving a toxicology and histology test on the necessary samples already obtained,” the statement read.

The autopsy process was observed by Mohbad’s father and two pathologists appointed by him and Mohbad’s partner Wunmi.

Mohbad, a rising star in the Nigerian music scene, passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023.

His death has since been surrounded by controversy and speculation, fueling widespread discussions on social media.
