Spokesperson of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Monalisa Chinda, has come after fellow actress, Lala Akindoju, for criticising the association’s visit to Regina Daniels who was recently delivered of a baby boy.
Executives of the guild visited Regina and her politician husband, Ned Nwoko, over the weekend to congratulate them on the birth of their baby.
They were led by their president, Emeka Rollas, who described the child as Nollywood’s baby of the year.
Pictures and video of the visit were released to the public.
Reacting to the visit, Lala, who is not a member of AGN, described it as shameful, saying the guild should focus on issues effect of COVID-19 and creating structures to stop sexual harassment in the industry.
“Even if you visit your member must you film and post? The videos we need to see about future and safety of practitioners,” she wrote.
Responding in a statement posted on Instagram, Monalisa tagged Lala’s criticism as unsavoury.
“Ordinarily, the AGN would not dignify such repugnant, uninformed comment with any response. In this case however, it is important to correct a few impressions without joining issues with a non-member of the guild. And we also advise you crosscheck your facts before making allusions,” she said.
The actress then listed what she considers achievement of the Rollas-led AGN executives.
She added that Regina’s mum, Rita Daniels, “is the able vice president, south-south in the current executive council of the guild” and her husband, Nwoko “is the current chairman, national board of patrons of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.”
Rollas had in March decorated Nwoko as chairman of AGN’s board of patrons.
Describing Nwoko as “a man with a lion heart” and “husband to one of our own Princess Regina Daniels Nwoko,” the AGN president said back then that “it was my pleasure decorating you with all the instruments of your appointment as Chairman Board of National Patrons of Actors Guild of Nigeria AGN. You have promised to join hands with other patrons to massively support the AGN projects.”
The AGN also made Senator Elisha Abbo, who was caught on camera assaulting a woman in a sex shop, its patron.
Kate Henshaw and Hilda Dokubo kicked against the honour bestowed on the senator back then.
