Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United fought back from two goals down to take a point away from St Mary’s after an entertaining 2-2 against Southampton.
A powerful strike from Stuart Armstrong and a wonderful free-kick from Cedric gave the home side a dream start, but goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera pulled the away side level before half-time.
Neither side looked too interested in pursuing a winner despite both managers being under pressure and the second half rather fizzled out in comparison to the electric entertainment in the first.
The home side started with two teenagers, Yan Valery and Michael Obafemi, and it was the latter who had a hand in the opener.
Things got even worse for Mourinho just minutes later when Marcus Rashford fouled Mario Lemina on the edge of the box. Cedric stepped up and struck it beautifully into the top corner, leaving De Gea with no chance.
But United showed a lot of character to come back into the game and Rashford was influential.
He nicked the ball off Maya Yoshida before sliding in Lukaku, who finished into the top corner past Alex McCarthy.
And they were level just five minutes later when Rashford was allowed to venture to the touchline, pull back a cross for Ander Herrera to cleverly backheel into the net.
The Red Devils are now six points behind the top four teams.
