An unidentified woman has reportedly abandoned her baby girl after successful delivery at a primary health care centre in Obiuno village, Osumeyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The woman was said to have left her baby and disappeared moments after delivery on Monday.
Anambra police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, said the woman was attended to immediately she was brought to the hospital in labour.
“She was quickly attended to and fifteen minutes later she successfully delivered a baby girl while the nurses left to attend to other patients.
“However, shortly after the delivery, the woman abandoned the baby and disappeared to unknown destination leaving behind the child at the mercy of the nurses at the center,” Mr Mohammed said.
The spokesman said the baby would be handed over to government orphanage for custodial care.
He said policemen attached to Juvenile and welfare unit, Osumenyi division, have begun a search for the fleeing mother.
