Singer and songwriter, Mr. Eazi, has unveiled a new foundation with the aim of providing financial assistance for rising musicians across Africa.
Mr. Eazi, born Oluwatosin Ajibade, will be launching the foundation in August.
The ‘Overload’ singer revealed that the foundation has set aside the sum of $100,000 for African emerging artists, also stating that the criteria for entry for every member is to be a registered voter in their country.
“Eazi Sound Foundation launches 1st August & we have set aside $100,000 for African Emerging artists! No 1 criteria is you must be registered to vote in your country,” he wrote.
The ‘London Town’ singer is currently in a relationship with fashion blogger Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, chairman of Forte Oil.
Mr. Eazi is the pioneer of Banku Music, a fusion sound he describes as the mixture of “Ghanaian bounces, Ghanaian highlife, Nigerian chord progressions, and Nigerian patterns.”
At age 16, Mr. Eazi relocated to Ghana to further his educational endeavors.
Mr. Eazi started recording music during his time at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He contributed guest vocals to the track ‘My Life’, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST.
The 26-year-old music largely fits into the category of Afrobeats, a contemporary West African pop genre that marries global pop, highlife and hip-hop.
