Comedian turned actor Debo Adedayo popularly known as Mr Macaroni has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for distancing himself from posts on Facebook and Twitter which condemned the lynching of a student Deborah Samuel in Sokoto.
Ms Samuel, a Christian 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was killed on Thursday for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
Following the incident, a message was posted on Atiku’s social media pages.
“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” the message read.
However, some Muslims knocked the presidential hopeful for his comments. Some of them threatened not to vote for him if he secures the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Atiku soon deleted the post on Facebook, saying that he did not authorise it.
Reacting to this, Mr Macaroni wrote on Twitter on Friday saying that politicians do not care for the people.
“Atiku deleting the tweet condemning the gruesome murder of Deborah shows what we have been preaching this whole election season.
Politicians don’t care for the people. They only play to the gallery when seeking for our votes. The people must see beyond these gimmicks,” he wrote.
