MTN Nigeria has received a “B-” rating for climate change and a “C” for water security in the latest assessment by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
These ratings, the company said, highlight its commitment to addressing environmental challenges and ensuring transparency in managing climate and water-related risks. They also reflect MTN’s dedication to improving its environmental performance through enhanced non-financial disclosures and sustainability reporting.
Commenting on the achievement, Tobe Okigbo, chief corporate services and sustainability officer at MTN Nigeria, stated, “We are embedding ESG considerations at the core of our operations, in recognition of its critical role in driving long-term value creation for our stakeholders. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our actions—from reducing energy consumption, improving energy efficiency, and increasing adoption of renewable energy. Also, through our Project Zero initiative, we are progressing in our commitment to reducing our GHG emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. Being scored ‘B-’ in climate change by CDP, a score in the ‘Management’ band, is a testament to the progress of our efforts.”
The CDP, a global non-profit organization, operates the world’s only independent environmental disclosure system. In 2024, over 24,800 of the world’s largest companies from more than 90 countries disclosed their environmental data through the CDP framework. This system provides a comprehensive approach to measuring, managing, and disclosing environmental impact, enabling informed decision-making and fostering sustainable growth.
MTN said it remains steadfast in its sustainability initiatives, creating shared value for its stakeholders by integrating responsible environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices into its operations.
