MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, in partnership with the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University, has announced the commencement of applications for the 4th edition of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN MIP-4).

The six-month fully funded certificate fellowship is designed for media practitioners across print, electronic, online platforms and social media content creators. The programme kicks off on May 19, 2025, at the main campus of Pan-Atlantic University, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, and includes a study visit to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Launched in 2022, the MTN MIP aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of media professionals, enabling them to navigate the ever-changing media landscape and foster innovation within the industry.

Tobe Okigbo, chief corporate services & sustainability officer, MTN Nigeria, highlighted the programme’s impact since its inception. He said: “When we launched MIP in 2022, our goal was to enhance media professionals’ reporting capabilities and deepen their understanding of the technology sector, empowering them to become true media innovators. Seeing the impact of the programme over the past three years has been both inspiring and humbling. We are proud to continue this initiative and invite all eligible media professionals and content creators to seize this opportunity by applying for the fourth cohort.”

Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, dean of the School of Media and Communication, at Pan-Atlantic University, emphasised the importance of the programme in addressing the challenges of a rapidly evolving media environment.

““Given the challenges of today’s fast-changing media space, there is an ever-greater urgency to cultivate a new generation of media professionals who will drive innovation and excellence to meet today’s media needs. SMC will leverage its extensive experience in training media professionals to equip this next cohort. And we will do this with our usual emphasis on creativity and ethics,” Obiaya said.

The MTN MIP will train 20 selected fellows on Nigeria’s technology sector, the intersection of media and technology, and advanced content creation strategies. Participants will also develop skills to adapt to the evolving media landscape, ensuring career and financial growth. Fellows will benefit from access to professional resources and mentorship from Pan-Atlantic University’s esteemed faculty.

Applications are open to journalists, bloggers, and content creators from Monday, March 24, to Monday, April 7, 2025.
