Adia Sowho has left her position as the chief marketing officer (CMO) of MTN Nigeria.
The telecoms company’s spokesperson Lakinbofa Goodluck said Ms Sowho’s exit “was mutual disengagement from MTN,” according to Daily Trust.
Sowho became the first female CMO of MTN Nigeria in August 2021.
Ugonwa Nwoye, the company’s chief customer relations officer, will serve as the acting CMO, sources said.
Nwoye leads the largest customer care operation in telecommunications in Africa and the Middle East.
Nwoye is in charge of customer operations strategy, design and implementation of the contacting service, up-sell, and support experience for all customer segments served and targeted by MTN Nigeria.
Sowho’s career in telecommunications began in 2001 as a radio frequency engineer at the US Cellular Corporation in the United States. She returned to Nigeria in 2010 to join 9mobile (formerly Etisalat), where she held various positions, including head of strategy and business development, head of digital media, and director of digital business.
After leaving 9mobile in 2018, Sowho was managing director and vice president of growth at Migo. She was also briefly the interim chief executive officer of agritech startup ThriveAgric around 2020, guiding the company through financial challenges and back to stability.
