Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has shared photos from the naming ceremony of Jeffrey Daniel’s baby.
Jeffrey is a founding member of American R&B and soul music vocal group Shalamar active during the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s.
Murray-Bruce shared the photos on Twitter on Monday, adding that he brought the group to Nigeria in 1982.
“At the naming ceremony of Jeffrey Daniel’s baby. Jeffrey is not only my good friend, he is also a singer-songwriter & choreographer and a founding member of the R&B group Shalamar,” he wrote.
“I brought Shalamar to Nigeria in 1982. Had no idea superstar Jeffrey would one day be a Nigerian.”
Jeffrey practically lives in Lagos now and was a judge in the Nigerian Idol.
Shalamar as a music group won several Grammy awards with Jeffrey rendering vocals and playing the guitar.
Other founding members include Howard Hewett and Jody Watley.
The name Shalamar was coined by Soul Train booking agent Dick Griffey.
As of July 2018, the European Intellectual Property Office certified ownership of the Shalamar trademark back to the ownership of the Griffey family.
