A Northerner has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, demanding action over the killing of 16 Northerners in Edo State on Thursday, March 27.
The Northerner, whose identity remains unknown, released a video on Tuesday, warning of potential consequences should the government fail to address the situation.
In the video, the man referenced past grievances, including the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student who was lynched in Sokoto in 2022 over alleged blasphemy.
He emphasised that in Islamic teachings, any insult against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is met with severe consequences and claimed that Muslims have never insulted Jesus Christ.
He stated, “I have seen a lot of people complaining about justice for Deborah. If you’ve not forgotten, Deborah was not killed for no reason. She was killed because she insulted the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“Have you ever seen any Northerner insult Jesus? No, it has never happened, but Christians among you abuse the Holy Prophet and think we will remain silent. That is the law. Anybody that insults our prophet will be killed.”
He went on to warn Tinubu and Okpebholo, highlighting the large population of Southerners residing in Northern states such as Borno, Kano, Jos, Kaduna and Adamawa.
He suggested that failure to take action regarding the killings in Edo could lead to retaliatory actions against Southerners in the North.
“If actions are not taken against the perpetrators of the 16 Northerners killed in Edo, anything that happens to your people here in the North, you will be the ones who caused it.
“President Bola Tinubu, this message is directed at you and His Excellency Governor Monday Okpebholo. This is the last warning. Time is not against you; it’s against us. Mr. President, you have only a few minutes to fetch out the culprits,” he declared.
The video has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the escalating tensions and potential for violence.
