Actor and comedian Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY Makun or AY Comedian, has expressed frustration over the lack of support for male filmmakers in the entertainment industry.

AY recently premiered his latest movie, The Waiter, which features a star-studded cast including Regina Daniels, Seyi Okanlawon, Uzee Usman, May Edochie, Toke Makinwa and AY himself.

However, the reception and financial returns from the film have fallen short of expectations.

Taking to his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, the father of two lamented how male filmmakers are often overlooked by their peers, who seem more inclined to support projects associated with women.

AY wrote:

“One day man go tell man ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we have breast and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?

“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up. THE WAITER is a beautiful movie. I will continue to PERSONALLY push it with my full chest in cinemas nationwide. I am too legit to quit.”

His post sparked reactions across social media.

While many fans and celebrities encouraged others to see the movie, others used the opportunity to make light-hearted jokes.

Comments ranged from support for AY’s persistence to playful remarks like, “That’s why Bobrisky decided to be a woman.”

AY has vowed to continue promoting the movie, which he describes as a project of passion, despite the challenges.

The Waiter is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
