One of the parents of the abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna Bege Danboyi has said his daughter Louis clocked a year older in captivity.
His daughter was among 28 out of 118 who were released by bandits on Sunday. More than 120 of them were abducted from their school on July 5. Three had previously been released.
“She was to start her National Examinations Council exams on the day she and others were abducted. She celebrated her birthday on July 23 in the bush but glory to God, she is back,” Mr Danboyi said.
While it has been rumoured that N50million was paid as ransom for the release of the students, the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) said it did not pay any ransom.
NBC president Revd Israel Akanji said no ransom was paid.
Some of the students who were returned on Sunday looked pale and had rashes on their bodies. The bandits had run of food and asked the church for food supplies to feed the abductees.
The Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna chapter asked parents whose children were not released to be patient, saying the victims would be released in batches.
