My family frustrated my late wife – Dare Melody

Gospel singer Dare Melody has opened up about the challenges his late wife Adedoyin Odunuga faced due to tensions with his family.

During a wake held at his residence on Friday, Dare Melody paid tribute to his late wife sharing fond memories of their life together.

He spoke of the unwavering support Adedoyin provided during tough times, including periods when they struggled financially.

In a video recently shared on social media, Dare recounted the difficult experiences his wife endured, revealing how family pressures impacted their marriage.

“My family frustrated Adedoyin. I would tell her, ‘Adedoyin I’m the one you married. Put your mind at rest whenever you see me.’ She stood by me through everything, even when we had little to eat.”

Dare Melody recalled a difficult period in his career when a promoter banned his songs from being played on the radio leaving them with limited income.

Despite the hardship Adedoyin remained steadfast, supporting him with patience and encouragement.

He said the turning point came in 2010 when he released the album Goodness and Mercy, which revived his music career.

“God opened the way for me and I started to build a house. A friend reminded me that Adedoyin had stood by me, and I said, ‘Everything I have is for her,’” he added.

The father-of-three described Adedoyin as not only a devoted wife but also a mother figure. He expressed that he would have given anything to save her life if money could have prevented her death.

Dare Melody further described his late wife as a cornerstone of his success, a woman whose strength and loyalty played a crucial role in his journey.

The singer’s brother who spoke at the wake echoed his sentiments, recounting the struggles Adedoyin faced within their family.

He mentioned specific incidents including one during a family celebration in Ibadan, highlighting the challenges she endured due to interference from in-laws, especially their late mother.

Dare Melody announced Adedoyin’s death on October 24 and she was laid to rest last Friday in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Dare and Adedoyin were together for 16 years before officially getting married in October 2017 at the Ikoyi Registry.
