My former manager threatened to destroy my career – Mercy Chinwo

Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has accused her former record label boss, Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as Eezeetee, of fraudulently replacing a 2017 management contract with a different version in 2019.

Mercy’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, disclosed this in a detailed statement shared on Instagram on Saturday.

According to Olajengbesi, Eezeetee signed Mercy to a five-year contract in 2017 but refused to provide her a copy until the agreement expired in 2022.

It was then discovered that the contract had been replaced with a 2019 version, which included lifetime ownership of her music and significantly unfavorable terms.

A pen-altered date on the front page attempted to disguise the new contract as the original.

Mercy’s relationship with Eezeetee reportedly deteriorated over the years, with the singer enduring verbal abuse and threats.

“By the fourth year, the relationship had become extremely toxic,” Olajengbesi said.

The mother of one recounted Eezeetee’s threats, including statements like, “I will deal with you, I will mess you up, I made you whom you are, I can shut you up, and nobody will hear you again. I will destroy your career.”

Olajengbesi also revealed that Eezeetee often created a hostile environment, isolating Mercy from opportunities and misinforming event organizers about her availability.

Mercy expressed her frustrations, stating, “He intimidated me, isolated me, and bullied me. He even tampered with my publishing rights by falsely listing himself as the songwriter of my songs.”

At an EFCC investigation panel in 2024, it was revealed that Eezeetee had unlawfully withheld $274,000 in digital revenue.

Although he claimed the money was meant for safekeeping, it was eventually recovered. Eezeetee admitted during the panel that he had introduced a new contract in 2019, contradicting his earlier claims.

Mercy described the emotional toll of the experience, saying, “I endured years of pain, humiliation, and manipulation, but God has wiped away my tears. The truth must come to light.”

Following an attempted reconciliation that ended with Eezeetee filing a court case against Mercy and fellow gospel singer Judikay, Mercy has maintained her commitment to resolving the matter amicably.

She has, however, demanded answers from Eezeetee, asking, “What happened to the 2017 contract I signed in Port Harcourt? Why was the document forged, and what is the reason behind introducing a new Lagos-based contract in 2019?”

Mercy has called on Eezeetee to publicly explain the discrepancies between the contracts, emphasizing her belief that these issues are not beyond resolution.
