Veteran journalist and former presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati has expressed deep love and admiration for his wife Kikelomo Atanda-Owo.
The 59-year-old poured his heart out in a Valentine’s Day tribute posted on Instagram on Friday.
Reflecting on their journey together, Abati described Kikelomo as his “safe haven” and a partner who challenges and inspires him daily.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Iyawo E. @RealtalkwithKike,” he began, he began, using a term of endearment in Yoruba. “Let’s keep riding on this journey of love and commitment. The purity and genuine happiness we share today are a reflection of the beauty of being with you on this journey of life. The only regret I have sometimes is not meeting you earlier. Marrying you remains one of the best decisions of my life!”
Abati’s words also acknowledged Kikelomo’s past, noting that her previous experiences made way for their relationship. “I am grateful that destiny paved the way for us because those who failed to cherish you in the past only made room for me to love and adore you the way you truly deserve as you are a kind soul.”
Both Abati and Kikelomo have been married twice before, with their union representing a fresh start for both. Kikelomo, a media personality and author, chronicled her experiences in her marriages, including her union with Professor Ademola Abass, a former special adviser to ex-Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, in her book Unbroken. Abati reviewed the book when it was presented to the public in 2021.
Abati’s previous marriages include his first to Iyabode, whom he met when he was 26, and another short-lived union with Omolara, who organised his 50th birthday celebration in November 2015, six months after he left Aso Rock as a presidential spokesperson.
In his Valentine’s message, Abati celebrated the depth of his connection with Kikelomo. “You are mine, Kiki, and I am yours forever and always. More laughter, love, and conquering the world side by side. Love Beyond Today & Always, Iyawo E.”
Responding to Abati’s message, Atanda-Owo wrote: You are my Safe Haven, My Rock, My Forever! MY LIFEBUOY. Many thanks for being my anchor after God and my father.
