Senator Ben Murray-Bruce of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has broken his silence by saying that his decision to remain quiet as election results trickle in should not be taken as conceding defeat.
The Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly said this on Tuesday via Twitter.
His reaction comes after Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be in the lead over Atiku Abubakar of the PDP in 12 states officially announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Projections from other states suggest Buhari’s eventual victory in the presidential election conducted nationwide on Saturday.
“I am purposely quiet while we gather the facts. My silence does not mean consent to electoral robbery. My silence is more meaningful than any words I can say now. Nigeria should be aware that democracy is their right. It is not the @OfficialPDPNig’s right. It is your’s. God bless,” Murray-Bruce wrote.
Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, had earlier on Tuesday advised Atiku to immediately concede defeat to Mr Buhari, a statement which has generated backlash from PDP supporters on social media.
