Former senator Dino Melaye has sparked reactions online after humorously stating his goal is to beat British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua “to stupor.”
The 51-year-old made the statement in an Instagram post on Wednesday where he shared a video of himself boxing and training at the gym.
“My target is beating Anthony Joshua to stupor,” Melaye captioned the clip.
While it was unclear whether Melaye was joking or hinting at a possible celebrity boxing match, his post quickly drew humorous comments from followers.
One Instagram user replied, “Fight Speedy Darlington ” while another said, “Mrr dino, u sha like dey use us catch cruise
”
“That one nah death wish? ” a third wrote, while a supporter added, “Go get him, sir, I dey your back
”
Dino Melaye, 51, is a former member of the House of Representatives and senator who represented Kogi West in the National Assembly. Known for his controversial style and collection of luxury cars, Melaye remains a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and pop culture.
Anthony Joshua, popularly called AJ, is a 35-year-old former two-time unified world heavyweight champion. He held the titles from 2016 to 2021, and previously won the British and Commonwealth heavyweight belts. As an amateur, Joshua won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships and a gold medal for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics. He turned professional in 2013 and was named Prospect of the Year by The Ring magazine in 2014.
