Ex-Nigeria international Samson Siasia has praised his wife for holding the family together while he was serving a five-year ban for match-fixing.
The Olympic silver medalist spoke on Saturday at the official welcome ceremony held by his Siaone Academy at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Youngsters in the academy welcomed Siasia with a novelty match.
Speaking with the press, Siasia said it has been difficult taking care of his family, He however praised for his wife for her effort.
“Thank God for my wife, she has done a lot while I have been incapacitated,” he said.
Siasia, who has coached the Super Eagles on two different occasions, said he is yet to receive a call to coach the team.
“Nobody has called me to talk about the Super Eagles,” the 57-year-old said, adding that his agents would be speaking with a number of clubs who have shown interest in him.
Siasia was initially banned by FIFA from all football-related activities for life in 2019.
However, his lifetime sentence was lowered to five years after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
Siasia, who is now free to return to football activities, earlier spoke on Kennis FM’s Sports Salsa programme, expressing his interest in the Super Eagles vacant head coach position.
“I am not a messiah; however, we need to sit down and identify our priorities. We will see how things unfold,” he said.
