Controversial social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that N180 million was stolen from his NGO’s account after it was hacked.
In an Instagram video shared on Friday, VDM claimed that the funds were diverted into an unknown account, leaving only N20 million behind.
“Honestly, I’ve not been myself for the past few days,” he said.
“Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. I am on my way to Jos.
“The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left, while N160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”
To secure the remaining funds, VDM said he had temporarily shut down the NGO’s app. “I had to shut down the app and put it on maintenance so people won’t see what’s going on. But I have to tell you,” he added.
The Martins Vincent Osei Initiative, launched in October, quickly gained support, raising over N35 million within hours.
Music producer Don Jazzy later contributed N100 million to the initiative, which seeks to revolutionise public education in Nigeria with modern teaching tools and artificial intelligence.
VDM has assured supporters of updates on the ongoing investigation and recovery efforts.
