Former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday said that he would have escaped trial of the alleged theft of N4.7 billion public funds that lasted for 11 years if he had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Ladoja was first arraigned in 2008 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He was cleared of the charges on February 8 by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
“I know the trial will be tough and challenging, but I believe God is on my side. I would have chosen to join APC so that my sins can be forgiven as it was recently said by the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole; but despite all the pressures, I remained steadfast because I knew truth shall prevail,” he said.
Ladoja, on arrival from Lagos, visited the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji.
The former governor said the monarch gave him support throughout the trial.
Olubadan described him as a man of “impeccable character” who would never indulge in questionable acts.
