A Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, on Tuesday discharged singer Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, of any involvement in the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who acted on legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), ruled that the Marlian Music boss had no case to answer.

Also freed were music promoter Samson Eletu, known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, alias Primeboy and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

However, the DPP recommended the prosecution of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts, contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law.

Their trial is set to continue at the Magistrate Court.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that led to widespread controversy and public outcry.

Before his death, he had a troubled relationship with his former label, Marlian Music, which he accused of physical assault in 2022.

He also shared that Sam Larry led an attack on him during a video shoot in 2023.

Following his death, Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arrested in October 2023 and detained for weeks before being released on bail in November.

They were required to surrender their passports and report to the State Criminal Investigation Department regularly.

As of February 2025, investigations into Mohbad’s death remain ongoing, with authorities and the public still seeking answers.
