Actress Nancy Isime has fired back at her critics following backlash from some Muslim netizens over an upcoming movie Blood Brothers.
Late Thursday, Nancy took to her Instagram page where she posted a series of pictures accompanied by cryptic messages seemingly aimed at addressing the controversy stirred by the use of the niqab in a robbery scene.
She captioned the post, “ISIME BABY!! Omo ologo 5G!!! The brightest light!!!! The city on a hill that can never be hidden!!!!! The Nancy Isime!! Big name, big force!!!”
One of the pictures shows the actress dressed in a black outfit, matching with a black bag and heels. Another picture contains a message reading, “I don’t bother nobody & I’m not bothered by nobody. That’s my peace.”
Her other messages include, “To protect my peace, I stopped taking other people’s projected opinions personally,” “It ain’t always materialistic things that people be jealous of… It’s your personality, energy and the way others love you,” and “Getting talked about don’t faze me. Look at the people who is talking.”
Nancy has been trending following a post on Monday, July 22 where she shared pictures from a robbery scene in Blood Brothers dressed in a niqab.
Voicing their displeasure, some Muslim netizens stressed that the niqab is not a costume and should not be used to depict negative actions such as a robbery. They said the hijab and niqab are symbols of modesty and faith, not props for entertainment.
In reaction, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) said on Thursday that it reached out to the producers of the movie.
The board’s director-general Shaibu Husseini assured that the film had not been released nor submitted for classification as required by law.
