Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken her case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and her six-month suspension to the international stage, seeking intervention from global democratic institutions.

Speaking at the Women in Parliament session during the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting at the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan described her suspension as “illegal” and an act of injustice.

She called for justice and urged international bodies to intervene.

Following her speech, the senator expressed concerns for her safety, alleging that there were indications she could be detained in New York against her will by “the powers that be” in Nigeria due to her outspokenness.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate on March 6, 2025, over alleged violations of Senate rules, including speaking without recognition and refusing to sit in her assigned seat.

Her suspension came shortly after she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation he denied, claiming it was linked to her removal from a Senate committee.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken legal action against Akpabio, demanding N100 billion in damages.
